NEW HARMONY — Posey County utility vehicles inch through the parking lot at idle speed between groups of friends stopped to chat from their golf carts. Regulars rotate between three tables as they gather for a daily meal at the Old Mill Mart on East Church Street in New Harmony. The Old Mill Mart was built in 1988 by Carol and Doug Reynolds and has been a staple of the community ever since. “When we built this you couldn’t get a gallon of milk past 5 o’clock in New Harmony,” said Doug Reynolds. “If you want to know what’s going on in town you come here, because all of the important people come here,” Reynolds said. The Old Mill Mart is known throughout New Harmony for its chicken lunches. Longtime patron Roger Wade has ordered the same lunch every day for about 16 years, a single order of wings. Sitting with his wife, Missy, long after they finish their meals the pair look through newspapers and discuss the headlines of the day with friends that come and go from the table. “We solve all of the world’s problems right here,” Wade said.
